End of the Year Update

It’s the end of the year and the end of the quarter, so let’s see how I did with my goals for the quarter. These can be found in my post from September.

  • Finish the first draft of Arena of Night.

This is done.

  • Finish preparing for Casualty of Silence.

Done.

  • Write first draft of Casualty of Silence.

Not done. I’m about 65% of the way through this at the time of writing.

  • Complete 3rd draft of Corruption of Blood.

Nope. I need to apologize to some of my beta readers, who are done, but I haven’t had a chance to get in touch with them.

  • Get Corruption of Blood to my editor.

Didn’t get the first part done, so this isn’t done.

  • Complete 4th draft of Corruption of Blood.

Still going.

  • Finalize Cover for Corruption of Blood.

I have that. Once I get my final page count, I’ll be posting this to the Books section of the site.

  • Proofread and complete 5th draft of Corruption of Blood.

Nope.

  • Publish Corruption of Blood.

Sigh.

  • Read A Feast for Crows by George RR Martin.

I got something done!

  • Read In the House of the Wolf by RJ Eliason (you can get it here on Amazon or here on Kobo, or anywhere e-books are sold.

I’m on a roll. This was done and I put a review up on Goodreads.

  • Read and review Curses, Plagues, and Intrigues by RJ Eliason.

I did this, too.

  • Beta read a book.

This will be completed by the time this is posted.

  • Write a blog post every week.

I got this done.

This was only 8 of 14, and I was aiming for 10. That’s a big, fat fail on my end. Feel free to chastise me in the comments section.

So, what have I been doing? Well, I finally broke down and bought a subscription for Masterclass.com. It is a website where you can take classes from recognized experts in various fields. I took a class from Dan Brown in writing thrillers and from Daniel Negreanu in playing poker. I’ve also found a class on writing and worldbuilding from Brandon Sanderson on YouTube. So, I’ve been working on craft and learning instead of doing the other things on my list.

But, I do need to get back to my writing. I just need to make sure I incorporate my learning into my schedule. Here are my goals for the 1st quarter this year.

  1. Finish the first draft of Casualty of Silence.
  2. Complete 3rd draft of Corruption of Blood.
  3. Get Corruption of Blood to my editor.
  4. Complete 4th draft of Corruption of Blood.
  5. Proofread and complete 5th draft of Corruption of Blood.
  6. Publish Corruption of Blood.
  7. Alpha read Arena of Night.
  8. Send Arena of Night to beta readers.
  9. Do 3rd draft of Arena of Night.
  10. Complete phases 1-6 of Book 6.
  11. Complete Worldbuilding for next series.
  12. Read Words of Radiance.
  13. Read Oathbringer or an unselected mystery novel.
  14. Take Masterclass from Margaret Atwood.
  15. Write a blog post every week.

That’s 15 items, and again, this will be a big list. I’ll be happy with 10, like last time, but I’d really like to get all of them done. Wish me luck with that.

I’ll see you next week. I’ll be starting a series of blog posts doing my worldbuilding for Shildaria, which is where my next series will take place. I’ll see you Sunday!
